Obesity

Obesity is a complex, prevalent chronic disease that impairs health. People who live with obesity can also face bias and stigma, which contribute to increased mortality. According to Obesity Canada, one in three adults in Canada may require medical support to manage this disease.

A team of health care professionals at the Byward Family Health Team has developed an Obesity Program. Comprised of Nurse Practitioners, Mental Health Counsellors, Pharmacists and our Registered Dietitian, we look to provide a safe environment to help work towards patient driven goals related to obesity management.

The focus of the program will be lifestyle recommendations, initiating and monitoring medications that support weight loss when appropriate, counselling and referrals to appropriate specialists as needed (ie. Ontario Bariatric Network). The program will have a blend of in-person and virtual visits and is up to two years in length.

The program will initially be open to OHIP patients registered to a primary care provider at Byward FHT who are 18 years of age and older with a BMI of 30 or greater.

Speak to your primary care provider for a referral or call 613-564-3950.
