Location: Ottawa, ON
Position Type: Casual / Student Position
Hours: Approximately 35 hours per week during the summer months, with reduced hours during the academic year based on operational needs and the student’s availability.

Salary Range : $18.38 to $24.97 per hour

About the Role

The ByWard Family Health Team is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented post-secondary student to join our administrative team as a New Patient Registration Clerk.

This position is ideal for a student pursuing studies in healthcare administration, business, public administration, health sciences, data analytics, or a related field who is looking to gain valuable experience in a healthcare setting

The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting the registration and onboarding of new patients while ensuring information is entered accurately and efficiently into our systems.

Work Arrangement: This is a hybrid position that combines on-site and remote work. The successful candidate will be required to work on-site at the clinic for training, patient support activities, and other operational requirements, while certain duties may be performed remotely. Employees working remotely must maintain a private, distraction-free workspace that protects patient confidentiality and must use a secure, password-protected internet connection that meets the organization’s privacy and security requirements. Remote work arrangements are subject to operational needs, training completion, and satisfactory performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Communicate with patients by telephone, email, and other communication platforms regarding registration requirements and clinic services.
  • Process new patient registrations and maintain accurate patient records.
  • Perform data entry and verify information for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist with billing-related administrative tasks and reconciliation activities.
  • Generate reports and assist with data analysis and basic healthcare analytics.
  • Monitor registration trends and support quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy of patient information in accordance with applicable legislation and organizational policies.
  • Provide general administrative support as required.

Qualifications Required

  • Currently enrolled in a university program and returning to studies in the fall.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in French and English.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and commitment to confidentiality.

Preferred

  • Previous customer service or administrative experience.
  • Experience working with databases or electronic records systems.
  • Interest in healthcare administration, business, data analytics, public health, or related fields.
  • Experience with data analysis, reporting, or Excel functions.

The Opportunity

The Psychiatrist will provide assessment, consultation, diagnosis, and treatment for patients experiencing a range of psychiatric and mental health concerns.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Comprehensive psychiatric assessments and treatment planning
  • Consultation and collaborative care with referring providers
  • Medication management and psychotherapeutic interventions, as appropriate
  • Participation in interdisciplinary case discussions and shared-care planning where appropriate
  • Supporting quality initiatives and program development

Practice focus and patient population may be tailored to align with the successful candidate’s interests and expertise.

 

Qualifications

  • Licensed or eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
  • Certification in Psychiatry through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
  • Experience in outpatient psychiatry and collaborative care settings preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with EMR systems and virtual care platforms
  • Bilingualism (English/French) considered an asset

ByWard Family Health Team (BWFHT) operates a busy clinic and offers a comprehensive range of services to the general public. JOB SUMMARY 

We are currently looking for a full-time Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our team and provide a full range of healthcare services to patients within the primary health care NP’s scope of practice. The NP will provide care to patients within our FHT guidelines for health promotion, disease prevention and chronic disease management. The NP will work collaboratively with physicians and allied health professionals in our shared care model.

ACCOUNTABILITY

Staff are expected to work in a professional manner, demonstrating above average qualities such as courtesy, tact, and judgment with respect to patients, fellow colleagues, and professionals.  All staff are expected to work in parallel with the organization’s confidentiality agreement.  As a member of our team, you are responsible for bringing issues that affect the smooth operation of the organization, to the attention of your immediate supervisor.  It is your responsibility to be up to date with all organizational communication.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Initiate and manage the care of patients with diseases or disorders within the Nurse Practitioner’s scope of practice and/or monitors the ongoing therapy of patients by providing effective pharmacological, complementary or counseling interventions.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of care plans by assessing patient comprehension and compliance to the care plan, reviewing clinical, behavioral and learning outcomes.
  • Based on evidence and best practice and in networking collaborate in development of goals and objectives, services and activities, outcome measures and evaluation for student community.  By doing so, develops an information network for present & future use.
  • Integrate best practice guidelines and current evidence-based research into clinical practice,
  • Evaluate clinical outcomes and integrate nursing knowledge and research into clinical practice,
  • Other activities may be assigned in collaboration with the health services members that relate to a Nurse Practitioner scope of practice.
  • Develop linkages with external partners as appropriate to ensure continuity of care,
  • Work in a manner to ensure safety to oneself, patients and their families, colleagues and the work environment.

 

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Current Registered Nurse Extended Class certificate and registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Graduate of a recognized Nurse Practitioner program
  • Current professional liability insurance
  • Minimum of two years clinical nursing practice experience as a Nurse Practitioner
  • Previous RN experience in hospital emergency department, primary care clinic or equivalent.
  • Bilingual preferred (French & English)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong clinical and effective time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team
  • Excellent health assessment skills, clinical judgment, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Has completed an approved controlled substance prescription and management education program
