Flu Vaccine for Patients

Seasonal flu vaccine is now available. Here are the options for getting a flu shot this year:

At ByWard FHT

  • Patients who have a scheduled in-person appointment will be offered a flu vaccine.
  • Patients who are 65 years of age and over can book a flu vaccine appointment with the nurse. Appointments available during the week at the same location as patient’s family doctor, and at flu vaccine clinics on select Saturdays and Sundays.  Availability of the high-dose vaccine will depend on supply.
  • Patients 5 years of age and under can book a flu vaccine appointment with the nurse. Appointments available during the week at the same location as patient’s family doctor, and at flu vaccine clinics on select Saturdays and Sundays.  The child can be accompanied by 1 parent/caregiver only (in keeping with COVID restrictions) who can also be vaccinated if they are registered to a BWFHT family MD.
  • The flu vaccine will not be available at the Campus Same Day Clinic.

On Campus – Starting the first week of November there will be a flu vaccine clinic operated by Ottawa Public Health at the Minto Sports Complex location on campus. It will be open to everyone. Availability of the high-dose vaccine will depend on supply. Go to the Ottawa Public Health website for additional information including hours of operation and to book an appointment: https://www.ottawapublichealth.ca/en/public-health-topics/influenza-flu.aspx

Pharmacies ONTARIO – Public Health Ontario is encouraging patients to obtain their flu vaccine at local pharmacies. Each pharmacy may have different vaccines available, including high-dose.  Ontario patients may obtain the flu vaccine free of charge.  Children as young as 2 years of age can now get their flu shot at a participating pharmacy.  Visit a participating pharmacy https://www.ontario.ca/page/flu-facts#when

Pharmacies QUEBEC – For the 2021-22 flu season, flu shots are free for healthy individuals between the ages of 60 and 74 years of age, and for those belonging to a high-risk group.  Go to www.clicsante.ca for additional information.

Ottawa Public Health clinics – OPH will be offering a number of clinics, 7 days per week, with extended hours including evenings and weekends.  A Public Health clinic is available on campus at the Minto Sports Complex.  Check clinic locations carefully as some accommodate small children and some do not.  For additional information and to book your appointment go to: https://www.ottawapublichealth.ca/en/public-health-topics/influenza-flu.aspx
